UCI World Cup championships - Mont Sainte Anne, Canada
One of the longest downhill tracks in the championships, with new features this year including a hefty near vertical boulder drop and off-camber hillside sections. This year marks the 25th anniversary of MSA and it's proven to be nothing by memorable!
Heavy rains descended on the Friday causing a very wet qualifiers, here are the top five standing:
Rachel Atherton (GBR)
Emmeline Ragot (FR)
Manon Carpenter (GBR)
Tahnée Seagrave (GBR)
Myriam Nicole (FR)
The women's top speeds are really catching up, super dedicated and riding hard is what we want to see and these women are killing it this year. Here's the runs of the top five female riders:
French rider, Myriam Nicole riding for Commencal, returns from injury and missing out the Lenzerheide round looks to be taking the track cautiously which may have been a smart manoeuvre given the rain making the track super slippery. During the extremely technical rock section, we saw Nicole dab her foot to get through some of the hairier sections. She raced brilliantly to secure herself 3rd spot. A great result for Nicole returning from injury, I bet she's stoked with that!
Next up on the track was British racer Tahnée Seagrave with the 4th fastest track time in qualifier. Seagrave took some tight and aggressive lines through the technical sections with her Devinci bike, and flew through the jumps which secured her 4th place.
Manon Carpenter riding for Madison Saracen was up next. The reigning champion having a very difficult season so far with a crash and being disqualified in Fort Bill and Leogang. Carpenter made up some speed and overtook Seagrave and Nicole to take 2nd place.
It was announced that due to a crash in practise rounds, French rider Emmeline Ragot would not be riding as she was out with injury.
Rachel Atherton up last riding for GT and hot from her succession of wins this year. Atherton flew through the track making it look easy. Dabs the foot in the technical rock garden, but didn't come off. Owing to her huge lead time, this didn't cost her too much. Taking the tighter and more technical lines, paid off as Atherton sails into top spot with a 3 second lead on Carpenter. This is Rachel's 4th consecutive win this series, and she is killing it!
Final race results:
1: Rachel Atherton (GBR) - 5:03.674
2: Manon Carpenter (GBR) - 5:07.091
3: Myriam Nicole (FR) - 5:07.291
