I’ve always found jerseys pretty tricky to review because, for the most part, they’re a simple single-layer of polyester. Polyester being great for wicking moisture away from the skin, for being quick drying and relatively easy to transfer colour designs onto, makes most mountain bike jerseys straightforward enough that unless I’m reviewing an outfit, I tend to avoid reviewing jerseys on their lonesome – that’s unless, of course, they’ve got something pretty cool going on with them.
American mountain bike brand, Kaden Apparel, exclusively cater to women who have a passion for riding bikes, for living a life on two wheels while empowering and inspiring women around them to do the same. Hailing from Burlington, Vermont, Kaden Apparel is the brainchild of Chelsea Camarata who, fed up with the crappy and limited selection of women’s kit, set out to right these wrongs. After a successful Kickstarter Campaign, Chelsea produced the first run of jerseys in the later months of 2017 and has been going from strength to strength ever since.
I recently got my hands on a lush burgundy Kaden Cady-V women’s jersey and while the British weather was warming up just nicely, I made the most of it by putting this jersey through some Welsh paces. First of all, the Cady-V jersey is a loose fit raglan-sleeved jersey with a nicely hemmed v-neck collar. Constructed from a polyester-lycra blend, the Cady-V has a dropped hem at the back, a flattering women’s cut and enough stretch in the material to ensure total freedom of movement as you ride. Straight off the bat, you can feel the superior quality in the fabric, it has a nice sheen to the material which is super soft and cooling against the skin.
Kaden Cady-V Women’s Jersey: Verdict
Without a doubt, this is my current favourite short-sleeve jersey to ride in. If the sun is out gracing the trails, then you can bet your money on the fact I’ll probably be kitted in the Kaden Cady-V jersey. There are a few reasons for my gushing over this top as well, firstly, it fits like a glove. To give you a little reference for sizing: I’m a UK 8 – 10 with size 30F breasticles stuffed into a sports bra, and I’ve been wearing a size small – and it’s spot on for me. It’s long on the body as well and given I have a proportionally longer torso to leg ratio, the length was very welcomed by my hips and butt.
Moving on from the fit, quite simply, I love a neckline that doesn’t touch my neck, well, throat. V-necks and lower cut collars are my favourites because I personally hate the feel of fabric moving against my throat so this collar is ideal. Furthermore, the collar has been carefully sewn to remain soft against the skin.
This burgundy Kaden Cady-V women’s jersey is available in sizes small to x.large, and in a few different colour options. For more information on this jersey, head over to Kaden’s website. To browse the full range of Kaden’s women’s MTB collection, head over here.
This jersey retails for $83USD which is approximately £63, so it does sit at the upper end of the jersey-budget scale. However, because of the superior quality of fabric, I managed to simply hang up the jersey to air it out rather than washing it repeatedly, and I got away with doing this quite a few times. With the fit, the fabric, the colour and function being so spot on, I’ll be hard pressed to find another short-sleeved jersey worthy enough to review on its own.
